Experimental Wet Plate Image

/

Hi all,

This time, the blog post is exceptionally written in English, and for a very good reason: an experimental wet plate image.

So, what does this experimental wet plate image actually mean?

Well, thanks for the idea goes to my spouse, who decided to try whether it would be possible to make a so-called contact print on a wet plate. They had a frame with two pieces of glass inside, with enough space between them to fit a negative. So, they concluded that it could be used to make a wet plate image traditionally as a contact print, just like is usually done with black-and-white negatives.

I was skeptical about the whole thing because the emulsion surface of a wet plate is very delicate and should not be touched by anything. So, I thought, how could this possibly work? However, my spouse was determined to try, and naturally, I wanted to help make it happen.

That day came yesterday, but of course, the day before I realized that you can’t really make a picture from a negative, because as everyone knows, a wet plate collodion image is technically a negative — it just appears as a positive.

So, we ended up trying a positive film used in polymer graphics.

How did it turn out? Well, I had to admit I was wrong — it worked out very well. This idea opens up entirely new possibilities in the world of wet plate photography. I will definitely return to this topic later. Perhaps even new products or services will appear in the online store — at least I believe so. A few ideas are already brewing 😀

Here is the actual image, created by exposing through the frame — or as the old City magazine used to said: TJEU (Check it out if you don’t believe it), i.e., See for yourself.

Oh, I almost forgot, I made one photo some time ago; here is the result.
